WWW Lesson Plan

This is the third task that we need to do. A lesson plan using websites. It is a nice experience and give me more idea for future.

The Lesson Plan:



Form: 4
Level: Intermediate
Time:
40 minutes
Theme: Places/Environment
Topic: Nice places in Malaysia
Language Content: Vocabulary: Word related to places
         Grammar: Adjective
Aims: To practice reading (scanning information).
           To practice writing through information transfer from the websites into written task.
           To practice information searching through web browsing.
Previous Knowledge: Students have learned on the adjective and how to use web browser.
Technical requirements and Teaching Aids:
1)              One computer per 2 students
2)              Internet connection
3)              Web browser
4)              Work sheet
5)              Marker pen
6)              Whiteboard
7)              LCD projector
Websites:
1)       Google (http://www.google.com/)
* Prepare the downloaded video in case the school policy denied the access.
4)      Longman English Dictionary Online (http://www.ldoceonline.com/) or Thesaurus-Merriam-Webster Online (http://www.merriam-webster.com/netdict.htm)

Preparation:
1)      Teacher locates the websites.
2)      Teacher prepares the teaching aids and the work sheet.
3)      Teacher checks the availability of computer access, internet connection, sites and the classroom condition before the lesson.

Procedures:
Set Induction (5 minutes)
1)      Teacher gives time for students to settle down in the computer lab.
2)      Teacher greets Students.
3)      Teacher recaps last lesson by asking students questions related with adjectives.

Development (30 minutes)
Activity 1 (10 minutes)
1)      Teacher shows the video on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP_BD0O0f5k)
2)      Teacher asks their opinion about the music video and what they learned from it.
3)      Teacher explains about the upcoming activity.
4)      Teacher gives students the first work sheet to be completed in pairs (the work sheet is the song lyrics that they watched in the video). They are allowed to discuss and check the meaning that they do not know through the dictionary websites prepared or using Google.
5)      Teacher discusses the answer with students.

Activity 2 (20 minutes)
1)       Teacher teaches how to read and scanning for information in websites.
2)   Teacher asks students to open Tourism Malaysia websites in their computer. (http://www.tourism.gov.my/en/Master / http://www.tourism.gov.my/en/Master/Web-Page/Places)
3)       Teacher explains about the upcoming activity.
4)      Teacher gives the worksheet.
5)      Students need to find information about places in Malaysia that interest them from the websites and answer the question in the worksheet.
6)      Teacher may help if the students are facing some difficulties.
7)      Teacher discusses the answer with the students.

Conclusion (5 minutes)
1)      Teacher recaps what has been learned during the lesson with the students.
2)      Teacher give students the follow-up activity before ends the lesson.

Follow-up Activity: Students need to find information of places that they want to visit outside of Malaysia using internet.
